Volunteers for this position would be involved with working in the ACES office or in their own home. Tasks would include answering phones, maintaining bookkeeping and database operations, and preparing thank you letters and receipts for donations. At home tasks would include answering the forwarded ACES telephone line for designated blocks of time, preferably at scheduled intervals up to four hours a week, and transmitting these messages to the ACES office. In-office time would require two hours a week, and volunteers would need to be proficient with Microsoft Word. Those volunteers involved with answering ACES telephones need to be able to write legibly and communicate clearly. Daytime business hours. COMPUTER REPAIRVolunteers would need mechanical aptitude and interest to repair and/or recycle contributed equipment. Transportation would also be needed to and from the ACES workshop. Minimum of two hours a week. Hardware knowledge and familiarity needed, and technical supervision will be provided. The workshop is is open Monday through Friday (10AM - 5PM) and Saturdays (9AM - 4PM). COMPUTER TUTORINGThe volunteer for this position needs a minimum proficiency with Windows 95 or Windows 98, as well as email and Internet use. The volunteers would be going into the homes of the recipients and helping them become familiar with the use of their machines, answering any questions, etc. Although the degree of tutoring necessary will vary depending upon the needs of the individual recipient, each "session" should last roughly one hour, taking as many sessions as needed. Basic printed instruction materials may be provided by ACES. Due to the nature of this position and its contact with recipients in their own home, a criminal background check is required. Volunteers may work according to own schedule. CONTRIBUTIONS DEVELOPMENTIncludes personal contact with contributors of equipment and funds for solicitation. May include research of grant possibilities, as well as grant preparation. Minimum time required for this position is two hours a week. The volunteer must be available during daytime business hours, and the position may require site visits to potential contributors. Work can be done from own home. DONATION PICK-UPThe volunteer should be over 18 with a valid drivers license and proof of insurance. This position would require the volunteer to drive to the donation site and receive the equipment. The donation would then be transported to the Adaptive Computer Empowerment warehouse facility. Although the time necessary for this position will vary, it will require a minimum of two hours per trip. Volunteer may use own vehicle and needs to be physically able to carry equipment to and from the vehicle. The volunteer may also work according to his/her own schedule. TELEPHONEThe volunteers for this position would make phone calls to recipients for equipment at designated intervals to determine satisfaction, needs, and progress. It may require one hour per week, and the volunteers can work according to their own schedule. PUBLICITYThe volunteers for this position would be primarily involved with writing press releases or working on the newsletter, making phone calls and contacting the various media agencies in order to assure publicity for ACES. It would require two hours a week, and good written and verbal skills would be necessary. SYSTEMS DELIVERYThe volunteer should be over 18 with a valid drivers license and proof of insurance. This position requires the volunteer to take the refurbished donations received by ACES and deliver/install them in the homes of the recipients. After installation the volunteer should provide some rudimentary instruction on the use of the system to the recipient. The time and degree of tutoring necessary will vary depending on both the competency of the recipient and the nature of the system. This position would involve a minimum commitment of 2-3 hours per delivery. Volunteer may need to have a screwdriver and their own vehicle. The volunteer would also need to be physically able to carry the system components to and from their vehicle. Due to the nature of this position and its direct contact with ACES recipients in their own homes, a criminal records check is required. The volunteer may work according to the needs of their own schedule.
